“The Rose” by Musicology Parfums 95ml EDP

HOW DID WE GET HERE?

Musicology was a featured brand at Esxence 2023. I was initially intrigued by the scent called “‘Cause I’m Happy” as it was named after one of my favourite songs by Pharrell Williams. The wonderful Fabien took the time to speak to me about the personal connection that he has to each of the fragrances he created in this collection with internationally renown perfumer Nathalie Lorson. Fabien was kind enough to gift a bottle of “The Rose” fragrance to me.

HOW DOES THIS FRAGRANCE MAKE ME FEEL?

In my mind, this fragrance smells like the moment that you release control, stop resisting, take a deep sigh and accept that you have actually fallen in love. This scent smells like the first gasp of air you release before you decide to step bravely forward into love’s uncertain territory. The raspberry, violet and vanilla notes are described by the brand as having a “frightening sweetness”, a description that I find perfectly mirrors the almost operatic development of the notes as it begins to dry down. When it comes to this fragrance, humble she is not! And why should she be, because when was the last time love crescendoed into our lives with anything less than a loud bang?

RATING

4 – Don’t MIST Out: I often find that many fragrances that combine rose and vanilla notes can smell synthetic to my nose. This fragrance offers an authentic interpretation of rose and vanilla and the addition of violet and raspberry notes add a nice complexity to the fragrance that allows it to stand out and assert itself.
